WHAT IS A DUPR BOX LEAGUE?

A pickleball box league is a fun and flexible way to play regular, competitive pickleball against others at a similar level.

In doubles you enter with your partner and you are grouped into “boxes” (usually 4 to 6 teams per box), and over a set period (the season) —typically 2 to 3 months —you play a match against each team in your box. In singles it’s the same, but you enter just yourself and play singles.

After each match you submit your scores to the administrator and you earn points based on your match results, and at the end of the cycle, the top player(s) move up to a higher box and the bottom ones may move down. Then the boxes are reshuffled, and a new round begins!

It’s a brilliant way to:

  • Get regular games with varied opponents

  • Track your progress

  • Meet more players in your club

  • Add a bit of friendly rivalry to your week!

  • Scores are submitted to DUPR so you can continue to build your rating

Think of it like a mini league that fits around your schedule—competitive, social, and super motivating.

Each box league will include 6-9 players (or pairs), depending on numbers. Each match should be mutually arranged between players. The time allocated may vary from box league to box league.

PEASE NOTE:

All matches in the box leagues must be organised by the players themselves. Once the league has started you must reach out to the competitors in your box (group) and arrange a suitable date/time/venue for your match and share the cost of the court.

If you would like to book a court at any of the bookable club sessions this might be a possibility if there is availability but this cannot be guaranteed and you will need to pay for court hire as well as the session attendance fee.

If you would like to borrow a net/padde/balls for your match pease ask by sending us a message on Whatsapp.

FORMAT & RULES

Format

Box league matches will be played as best-of-three games. Each set will be the first to 11 points by one clear point

League Points Scoring

Your submitted scores will attract league points as follows:

5 points – 3 sets win
4 points – 2 sets win
2 points – 2 sets loss
1 point – 3 sets loss

Promotion / relegation
Players/teams should play a minimum of two matches to be eligible for promotion, or to avoid relegation. If a player/team only plays one match, this may result in another player/team gaining a higher position over them. Playing no matches in a round may result in demotion to the next division below.

Occasionally adjustments to positions may be necessary due to players/teams dropping out of the league, or new players/teams entering. While players may be moved up a division due to these adjustments, every effort will be made to ensure that nobody is moved down. If a player/team is moved up in this way, it will normally be a player/team who has retained their place in the lower division who moves up, rather than one staying in the higher division when they have ended at the bottom of the league.

Registering your Box League results

The winning player/team is expected to submit scores accurately and promptly at the conclusion of the match.

New players/teams
New players/teams entering the box league may be added at the discretion of the league director. This may apply when players/teams withdraw injured and/or new members join the club. Occasionally, depending on how many players/teams are in each division, a new player/team may need to be placed in a higher division if it is necessary.

Walkovers
A player/team may claim a walkover if they are unable to arrange a match at any time during the round with another player/team, due to the opponent being unable to play. To be able to claim a walkover, the player/team must have offered at least 3 dates to play, and the opponent must have declined these dates, and not offered any alternative dates – if both players/teams have suggested a date then no walkover can be claimed

DUPR

All results will be submitted to DUPR.

What is a DUPR Box League?

DUPR Box League is a mini league-style competition where players are grouped by ability and play matches over a set season. Scores are submitted to DUPR, helping you build your official rating.

  • Singles: No, you enter as an individual.

  • Doubles: Yes, you need to enter as a team with your chosen partner.

Season 1 runs from 14th July to 30th September 2025 — that’s around 11 weeks to complete your matches.

Each player or team is grouped into a “box” of 4–6 others. You’ll play one match against each opponent in your box — so typically 3 to 5 matches per season.

You organise the matches yourself by contacting the other players/teams in your box. Together, you choose a mutually suitable date, time, and venue.

You might be able to use a court during a bookable club session if space is available, but this can’t be guaranteed. You’ll need to pay both the court fee and the session fee.

All matches are best-of-three sets, first to 11 points per set (win by 1). Points are awarded like this:

  • 5 points – win 3 sets

  • 4 points – win 2 sets

  • 2 points – lose 2 sets

  • 1 point – lose all 3 sets

Based on match results:

  • Top players/teams move up a division

  • Bottom players/teams may move down

  • Then a new round begins with fresh groupings.

The winning player/team should submit the match result promptly to the league organiser, by Whatsapp/SMS

Yes! Just send us a message on WhatsApp and we’ll try to help.

You may claim a walkover if:

  • You offered at least 3 dates

  • Your opponent declined all of them without offering alternatives
No walkover is granted if both parties offered dates.

To be eligible for promotion, you must play at least 2 matches. Playing only 1 match might lower your chances. Not playing at all may result in automatic relegation.

Season 1 is open gender for both singles and doubles. We may review this based on entries and feedback.

  • Members: FREE

  • Guests: £10 (singles) / £10 per pair (doubles)
